VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO ADDRESS TORNADO DISASTER
WASHINGTON -- With cold weather on the horizon, only two volunteer work days remain available this year to help those recovering from the Nov. 17 tornadoes.
“We are seeking volunteers for Saturday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Nov. 15,” said Kerstan Plattner, executive coordinator for Bethany Community Church.
Heading up the volunteer management committee for Tri-County Long Term Recovery, Bethany has coordinated more than 13,000 relief workers. Along with continuing debris removal and general clean up, they will build garden sheds for returning residents during the last work days of the season.
"We plan to open for more volunteers in the spring,” Plattner said.
To help with the work days, call the volunteer hotline at (309) 573-2670 or email NeedAid@bethanycommunitychurch.org. If you need help on your home, call the homeowners hotline at (309) 696-6923.
Overall, LTR has opened more than 1,000 cases, coordinating resources and information during the lengthy recovery. About a third of those cases remain open, and new needs are uncovered daily. If you or someone you know needs help from unpaid insurance deductibles to mental health counseling, LTR may be able to assist. To get help, call LTR at (309) 696-6923.
